Summer Pedicure at Home – 7 Easy Steps [Photo Tutorial]

Hello friends!

Our feet are exposed to the dirt and sun outdoors, all day long. They also happen to be the most neglected  part of our body. It’s important to give your feet the care they deserve when you’re at home and to pamper them. Here is a small article on how to give your feet a relaxing pedicure at home. Its based on my own experience! Hope you will love it.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A bucket/tub
  • Nail color
  • Nail trimmer
  • Nail file
  • Foot file/pumice stone
  • Cotton wool
  • Nail polish remover
  • Towels
  • Body lotion
  • Scrub
  • Essential oils/milk/butter milk(optional)
  • Cuticle cream or Vaseline petroleum jelly
  • Cuticle pushing stick

How to Do Summer Pedicure at Home?:

Step 1: Remove old nail polish with a good branded nail polish remover. Simply wipe it off with your nail polish remover and some cotton wool.

Step 2: Immerse your feet in a tub of warm water, to help soften your nails and skin. You can add shampoo or body wash to help get rid of dirt. Add baking soda as this accentuates the softening.

After soaking your feet in warm water for 5-10 minutes, drain out the water and fill the tub with fresh cold water. To this tub you can add the following:

  • Ice to calm down the skin in summer
  • You can a use Milk or buttermilk due to presence of lactic acid which works to soften feet and remove dead skin

Essential oils are optional, but here are some suggestions:

  • Peppermint oil for cooling effect
  • Lavender for aroma
  • Tea Tree oil for fungal infections

Adding some marbles (the once we used to play with as kids) to the base of bucket and rubbing your feet against them gives a nice massaging effect.

Step 3: Use the pumice stone or a foot file in gentle circular motion to get rid of the dry skin on your soles.

Step 4: For the front portion of your foot use a foot scrub or try any body scrub with good abrasive properties. Try using Aroma Magic’s mineral glow scrub or Everyuth Apricot scrub. Both work good.

Step 5: Pat your feet dry. Do not forget to dry between toes.

Step 6: Clip your toenails straight and file the edges. Always file in one direction only.

Step 7: Apply a cuticle cream to soften your cuticles (I use petroleum jelly or glycerin). Use a cuticle pushing stick to gently push your cuticles back.

Step 8: Moisturize your feet well. You can use any body lotion or foot cream for this. Do not apply in between toes.

Step 7: Apply the nail color of your choice :)

P.S: The frequency of these pedicure can be kept at every 2 weeks..

Additional points to take care of your feet in summers:

1. Wear cotton socks if possible. This serves a triple purpose of absorbing sweat, keeping feet clean as well as protecting them from sun tan.

2. Keep spaces between your toes dry to avoid infections.

3. Those of you who are prone to fungal infections, it is better to wear sandals or slippers as opposed to closed shoes.

4. If you are wearing shoes sprinkle some anti fungal powder between your toes.

5. Keep neem leaves in your shoes to keep them free from odour.

Vaadi Herbals Foot Cream Review and My Experience

by Shruti

One of the major loopholes of online shopping is ‘Minimum Shipping’. This word forces us to keep adding stuff to our cart just so we don’t pay the extra ‘shipping costs’ . But my dear friends, it is this trap that we often fall into and end up with so much of products (for which I get endless scoldings from my mom). It was during one of my online hunts, that I was short of 30 INR and didn’t know what to buy. This was the only product available below 50. That being said and done, as soon as I got my parcel, this went inside my cupboard and I totally forgot about it. Miraculously, for me and the cream, I found it during my quarterly cupboard cleaning missions and boy am I glad I found you!!

Price and Quantity:

Rs. 45 for 30 gm.

Active Ingredients:

Thyme, Clove Oil, Sandalwood, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba Oil.

How to Use?:

Wash feet and gently massage cream into your skin and cuticles properly. Use daily after bath.

Shelf Life:

36 months

My Experience:

Packaging: The tiniest cutest little round white jar. The size of the lip balm pots we get a lot nowadays.

Color,Consistency & Fragrance: The cream is thick and creamy. Looks like butter :) It smells strongly of clove.

Swatch:

How it works: Its simple. Wash your feet with warm water and apply this cream generously and massage them. The best way to make sure you get all the moisture locked in is to wear nice soft socks. You put them on and you are set for bed. This cream is so buttery and it spreads fabulously. Feet are one of the driest parts of the boys and they need maximum moisturization. I used this cream for a week and my feet were soft and the rough patches reduced drastically.I don’t have cracks but this would heal your heels too. Also, I have this fetish for mint and this cream leaves a nice minty feeling on my feet. Aah! Foot heaven! I am simply amazed by this tiny wonder.

PROS:

  • Moisturizes my feet really
  • Though the bottle looks tiny, there is a lot of product.
  • Price! Wouldn’t hurt the pocket much
  • With continuous use, it reduces dry patches.
  • Repair heels too.

CONS:

  • Availability. You can only get this online

Rating: 4/5

Do I Recommend?:

Yes. It really is a good foot cream. For the price, you can try it once and if you don’t like it, at least you won’t feel the pinch:-)

Would I Repurchase?:

Absolutely yes!

Home Made Coconut Foot Scrub

My day is incomplete without using at least 2 spoons full of coconut in my daily cooking. Living in the coastal region of India has made me a great devotee of coconut. No no!! I am not showing you any thing that I am cooking. The topic of presentation today is using coconut in my beauty routine, especially during winter.

Home Made Coconut Foot Scrub

My place here does not have that harsh winter every body is talking about. But, yet there is dryness in the weather. My entire skin is become scaly. My feet are no exception. I got so many cuts and pointy flakes on my heels. It badly needed too much of care. And this where I turned towards coconut for some help.

Ingredients:

All you will need is 3-4 spoons full of grated coconut. :)

Home Made Coconut Foot Scrub

How to Use Coconut as a Foot Scrub:

  • I always have coconuts at my home ready for bring used. Using of coconut scrub has to be compulsorily done in the bath room. Else, you will end up cleaning the floor all time.
  • First clean the feet with mild soap. I have started using baby bath products considering they are mild in nature. After cleaning, take some amount of grated coconut and rub across the entire foot in possible angles; some hard strokes and some soft strokes. Do not bother of your skin getting hurt. These grated coconut pieces are so soft that they form a very smooth scrubbing structure.
  • Do the rubbing on the heel, between the toes, on the nails, edges between nails and the skin, ankle, above and under the feet. Coconut pieces forma a very good massager cum scrubber, a two in one product.
  • The skin will now definitely look shiny and oily. I do not use any soap to remove the creamy residue of the coconut. I only use hot water to wash it off. Hot water will remove the excess oiliness from the skin. After patting my feet dry, I slip into a pair of slippers so that I do not leave greasy foot marks on the floor.  If at all some amount of greasiness is left behind, it will be absorbed by the skin in about an hour or so. So, no worries.

I follow this twice a day. It hardly takes about 5-6 minutes.

  • Once in the morning while bath.
  • Again at night before sleeping.

When not to use?:

Do not do the coconut scrubbing for your feet if you have plans of going out for the day. Feet will attract lots of dust since the coconut scrub is very creamy. Only do it at night.

So how do you use Coconut in your Skincare Routine?

Himalaya FootCare Cream is an unique, daily-use, natural formulation that heals and softens excessively dry and rough feet, preventing cracks and helping protect feet from microbial infections. The gentle, yet effective combination of natural moisturisers provides an unique three-way deep moisturising effect, making your skin soft, increasing the natural moisture content and keeping your feet moisurized even during extensive exposure to the elements. Sal Tree extract has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric and Honey provide antiseptic and germicidal action, and Feenugreek helps heal cracks and relieve inflammation.
Use daily for soft, smooth, healthy feet.
My Views and Ratings

The Packaging
Thank god it’s not tub (Unhygienic). The product comes in a white with orange coloured tube, wrapped with a paper box which looks cute with a foot shaped card. The tube looks very simple, yet sturdy with a green coloured screw cap like every other Himalaya Herbals products come. I can easily carry it around as there is nothing to fear about leaking or something else. Overall, the packaging is not that cute, but simple, perfect and best for usage.
4.5/5
Colour, Consistency & Fragrance
This foot cream is thick, beige in color and smooth in texture. Though the consistency is thick, the cream spreads quickly onto the skin without leaving any greasy feel or whitish cast. The fragrance is little herbal + little floral mixed, also had a slight powdery smell. For a foot cream, the smell is not that overpowering. It’s good and bearable still I wash my hands after using this cream.
4/5
The cream on my feet
Rubbed twice (The Swatch)
Gets absorbed easily without any greasiness

How it works on Me
I am blessed with no cracks on my heels and hence I asked my mom to try this cream too. First, let us see how it worked on me. The cream instantly made my feet smooth, soft without any greasy feel and my feet felt soft for 5 yours, then I had to reapply. It vanished fine lines on my feet and what a magic! It cured the wound that i got because of my new slippers. And yes! I saw a great difference on my feet within 3 days. It improved the texture of my feet overall. So what my mom said is that her heel cracks very controlled and prevented within a week of usage and she also felt a slight change over the cracks. Overall, I guess this would be everyone’s summer pick, sweaty feet may feel it best in winters. Decently priced, simple yet good packaging and for all the above reasons such as no greasiness I love this product. It also comes in a bigger pack of 50g, but I am not sure about the prize. The product does what it claims! (That too very naturally) :D
4.9/5
PROS
  1. Non sticky, Non greasy texture
  2. Spreads easily.
  3. Comes in a dirt cheap rate for this much worth.
  4. Easily available everywhere, you can even get one from your nearest Pharmacy.

  6. Contains natural ingredients such as Sal, Fenugreek and turmeric which are very good for skin.
  7. Great for usage as an after pedicure foot moisturizer.
  8. Prevented nail breakage up to an extent.
  9. The fragrance is not that over powering. Decent for a foot cream.
  10. A great difference in foot texture is seen within 3 days, so the claims are true.
CONS
  1. This cannot be taken as a con, but I felt a little more moisturizing effect will make this a best foot cream for winters too.
  2. Contain parabens :( (Every other product do so nowadays)
My Recommendation: A great pick for everyone, The best pick for sweaty feet as this is non greasy and I am not sure above extremely dry and cracked heels, give a try though!
