Original Source Mint and Tea Tree Shower Gel Review

by Shruti

To me mint means summer. Mint drinks, mint face packs and mint chutney; I was as usual bored with my soap and was surfing the net (my bank account must have been weeping then). I saw this green bottle looking so tempting. I caught on the words mint and tea tree and my heart said “Go get it Shruti.. Just one shower gel” but my mind said ” Are you jobless? No right! Get back to coding”
In the end, the heart won over my mind (as usual) and in 2 days I had it in my bathroom. A word of caution- this is for summer and not for winter. Better late than never. So, here is my take on it :)

Price and Quantity:

Rs.195 for 250 ml

Ingredients:

Too many:( So I have included the picture for this;)

Shelf Life:

3 years from date of manufacturing.
But I am sure you will finish this in a month. Especially in summers.

My Experience:

Packaging: What do you call this shape? Hexagon? I counted the sides. It has 6. So let’s call it a modified hexagon ;) I love everything about this bottle. The bottle is actually transparent so it’s easy to identify how much is left. And it’s plastic! I think unbreakable too! ( no, I didn’t throw it on my bathroom floor) It has a flip top with a small nozzle. You can keep it upright or in a sleeping position. When it’s upright, the bottle doesn’t leak.

Color, Consistency & Fragrance: The shower gel is neither thick nor runny. It’s a refreshing leaf green in colour. It smells minty with a hint of tea tree.

How it works: Well, to begin with, it doesn’t lather. Yes, all you lather lovers who think if it doesn’t lather, then you are not clean will find this behavior a tad disappointing. To me, it just feels like a gel cream when applied. I have used it with and without a loofah. Same results both times. The smell however is uplifting.
I have not even come to the best part. This tingles man! Not for long but it does. It tingles till you wash it off and stays for about 5 minutes after that. I take bath with this in the nights :) I have to moisturize my skin after this though.

Note: I don’t use any soap or shower gel for my face. I use a medicated face cleanser. So I don’t know how this fares on the face.

PROS:

  • Great for summer
  • It’s got mint and tea tree oil- whose benefits we shall talk about in another post:)
  • The bottle is recyclable.( I know you are thinking. Hey, a pro is a pro)
  • It’s tested on them and I think not on animals.
  • It’s vegan :)

CONS:

  • Though it says natural, it’s got chemicals.
  • Availability
  • Doesn’t lather
  • Need a moisturizer after it.

Rating: 3/5

Do I Recommend?:

I am conflicted. For me, it was an impulsive purchase. But buy it if you like tea tree and mint and that cool pepperminty feel. However, it would be good for summers.

Would I Repurchase?:

No. Like I said before, it was an impulsive buy. There are many more shower gels which are waiting for me.

I created the blog in 2011 during my high school days and then went on to regret the domain name. More than writing, I love my kitchen-experiments; currently hoarding cast iron pans.
