How to Make Vitamin C Serum At Home?

Hello, everyone!

We all go through many skin problems throughout the life. Skin problems are different for everybody! Reasons could be stress, lifestyle, habits, diet intake, hormone imbalance etc. We try so many things to treat our skin problems from traditional beauty tricks to high end brand’s solutions, dermatologist visits and many more stuff.

In this post I am sharing one of my favorite skincare recipes, which treats multiple skin problems and helps you achieve that beautiful skin, naturally at home.

homemade vitamin C serum

I researched about this and made this potion sometime back but, couldn’t continue. Hence, I planned to try it again this time. It definitely is a Holy Grail product for me! When I first read about it, I was really surprised that it helps with so many things – It helps in improving the skin tone, lightening the acne scars; it makes the skin smooth and supple, helps in removing dark circles; it tightens the skin and acts as an anti ageing and anti wrinkle formula; it helps in reducing the pore size and the list goes on.

Initially, I was skeptical about this Vitamin C serum because of this particular vitamin being acidic in nature and that I have a sensitive skin. But, still I gave it a try and I did not face any problems despite the slight ‘tingle’ but again, it’s very normal for my sensitive skin. Apart from that, I did not experience any major difficulty using this homemade serum! Now, I want to give it a try again and check how it will work out for me. I will be asking my mom too to use this to check how the results turn out to be.

Things you’ll need:

  • A Glass bottle
  • 2-3 Vitamin C tablets
  • 1 Vitamin E capsule
  • Glycerine
  • Distilled water
  • A Dropper

ingredients

limcee vitamin c tablets

glycerin

evion vitamin c capsules

Steps to Prepare

You need to take 2 tablespoons of distilled water and dissolve 2 Vitamin C pills in it. I have used Limcee 500 mg – Vitamic C Chewable tablets. Shake the bottle till the capsules get dissolved in the water. Once it completely gets dissolved, add 1 or half tablespoon of glycerin to this mixture. After adding the glycerin, add a Vitamin E capsule (I have used the brand ‘Evion’) to it. Puncture the capsule and add its contents to the mixture.

Shake well and now, the serum is ready. Keep it in the refrigerator.

Use a dropper while using this serum. I have used it only at night time! As it has vitamin C in it you should follow it with a sunscreen or sunblock. My recommendation would be, first start using it at night time before going to bed.

Note : If you’re going through any skin treatment kindly, speak to your dermatologist first before giving it a try. If you’re allergic to any of the above ingredients do not try it.

Usage + Benefits : After making this serum, you can only use it for a week and after that you will need to make an all new batch for next week. Well, I don’t think that should be a problem if it could help in getting rid of so many problems at such a less price.

It helps clarify the skin; and it does also imparts a glow. With continuous usage, it clears acne scars/marks to reveal soft, bright skin. If you’re looking for a recipe that improves your complexion naturally, you should give this a try. You can simply use a cotton bud or your clean finger tips to apply the serum all over your face.

We all might have tried high end brand products and I am sure not all of them have proved what they claimed. Give this serum a try and do share your feedback. with me I will share my feedback too, as I’ve just started using it all over again!

P.S: This time the serum color is more orange maybe, because of the different Vitamin C tablet. Last year when I made a batch the color was not so bright. So, the color of the serum which you’re going to make will depend on the type of ingredients you’re using.

You can add less amount of glycerin if you experience too much oily skin. After application the serum will give a sticky feeling if you want you can top it up with the moisturizer. Or if you feel it is staining your pillow or bed-sheets then, try it during day time though I only use it during night time!

  2. Hi Ranju :)
I’ve some questions. Please attend to them.
    1) Can this serum be used every day after having a bath on one’s face as well as neck?
    2) What’s the relevance of the glass bottle? Won’t a plastic bottle solve the purpose too?
    3) Can one simply apply it (no makeup) and venture out during the daytime or at night?
    Thanks :)

    1. 1. Yes
      2. Vit C is acidic in nature. Some plastics reacts with acids. Glass is very much inert and safe for storing anything.
      3. DO NOT GO OUT IN THE SUN WEARING VIT C!!! It will oxidize in presence of sunlight and all the good effects will be vanished, rather replaced by tanned and heavily wrinkled face. Better use at night time. If you are at all using during day time, then rinse and apply sunscreen before going out.
