Maybelline Color Show Lipstick : Cherry Crush, Orange Icon Review, Swatches, FOTD

Maybelline Newyork recently launched 36 new shades of their Color Show lipsticks and I’ve got 2 of them to review today. All the shades are from 4 main color families – reds, mauves, pinks and browns.

These are priced at Rs.299 for 3.9 g.

My Views

These lipsticks come in a black glossy color-coded bullet that has a center ring that indicates the shade of the lipstick. The shade names are also mentioned at the bottom.

Coming to the texture of these lipsticks, it is buttery smooth! I’ve tried few Maybelline lipsticks in the past and this is the creamiest formula than the other ones. The texture is smooth, gliding and moisturizing and hence, the lipstick has a sheer-medium coverage. However, it cannot be applicable for ALL the shades in the range since one is more pigmented than the other, i.e the pigmentation varies according to the shade you get. The fragrance is very mild and candy-like; it disappears soon after the application.

Cherry Crush : Cherry crush is a beautiful reddish pink shade. (somehow it looks more pink on the FOTD) The shade is very summery and fresh. If you are someone who love warm pink-red lipsticks, this specific shade will interest you! The shade is well pigmented for a moisturizing lipstick and almost goes almost opaque in 3-4 coats. I limit it with maximum two coats since it goes ‘neon’ on my dark skin if over-applied. It leaves behind a pink tint on my lips after fading.

Orange Icon : True to the name, the shade looks vibrant on the tube! But to the contrary, it is very sheer when swatched. It goes purely coral on the lips with a lovely sheen. (more like a coral lip balm but slightly thicker) The shade is more sheer compared to the Cherry Crush, making it a very wearable shade. If you are someone who loves the orange-family when it comes to makeup but feels hesitant flaunting them, this shade will impress you very much! The sheer-er texture leave my lips moisturized with decent pigmentation though not opaque. It leaves a lovely coral tint on my lips!

Staying powder varies shade to shade. If applied 3-4 coats, both the shades stay good for 2-3 hours with mild snacks leaving a subtle tint behind. The tint stays for 3+ hours. If used in light hand, (like a lip balm) the shades stay for 1 hour or so leaving a very light tint. The lips feel better without using a daily balm since these are non-drying!

Overall, I like these newly launched glossy bullets! I’m surprized with their moisturizing qualities and the shades too come with an affordable price tag. However the only downside is the pigmentation if you are looking for opaque coverage. The finish is sheer and glossy. If you want to set them matte, try blotting with a tissue after application and re-apply; blot again. This way, the shades stay more longer!

P.S : I guess the formula has improved since the previous ones I’d tried in the past tend to settle into patches though being creamy. These are much more better in terms of finish, is not the best!

  1. Wow! I’m just clean bold with the Orange Icon. It’s such a lovely colour. I have dusky skin tone and I started to believe that oranges just aren’t for me. This colour might prove me wrong. Thank you.
Love your look. Would like to see a break down of your look.

  2. Love both the colors, very summery but love cherry crush the most, looks very girly pinkish red type of color
