Today, I’m doing another (most requested) post on the beauty blogging series. It is about making money with your beauty blog! I shall also be sharing my rough income report at the end of this post. Do read on to know more!
Can you actually make money from beauty blogging? : Yes! You can make money from your beauty blog. But not EVERY beauty blog on the internet makes money! It takes time, dedication and patience. If you are planning to open and run a beauty blog only for the purpose of ‘money making’, I doubt if you will succeed your goal! The competition is getting tougher with popping new beauty blogs everywhere and to be honest, without true passion/interest in the niche, you can NOT survive the world of beauty blogging for a longer period!
You cannot gain readers if you don’t truly share a passion in your writing! There’s no eligibility criteria to become a beauty blogger though. You do NOT need to be a beauty/fashion expert; you do not need to complete a course for this! All you need are ‘true interest’ in the niche and ‘time’ to contribute! Be it makeup, skin care, hair care or anything else that comes under beauty, you will need to know/should be willing to know about it in order to be a beauty blogger! Only after that, the money comes!
I admit there are beauty sites/communities that make huge amount of money hiring writers to do the work. But they have a strong technical background with website developers, content writers and SEO experts in order to run their sites successfully! They make money and they’ll continue to earn the same or even higher with their increasing traffic unless they violate any terms/lose traffic.
If you want to start as a beauty blogger, who is an individual, firstly, ask yourself if you have interest in the niche before you start blogging. Ask yourself if you can love to do posts on regular basis or you will be just forcing yourself to do it in order to make money. The latter doesn’t work, sadly.
If makeup is your love, do write about it with attractive images! If you are not that into makeup, no issues; see if you love skin care! If you love growing out your hair, do share your journey with your readers! (Example: Me!) There are various categories under the main niche – beauty! Pick one that suits your interest best and share your true views with your readers. Learn some SEO and protect your blog! Only this way, you can think about making serious money with blogging! Money shouldn’t be your only motive; you should earn it out of the work you love to do! This ensures you stay on the beauty blogosphere forever!
I must also admit that you cannot start making money right away from your beauty blog. It may take months, even years to build a strong readership before you start seeing some $$$. I did not earn my first $100 for more than 6 months! It’ll require time and effort! If your concern is just about making money fast, and you have no interest on beauty/makeup or anything related to that, there are several other niches to blog/ways to earn on the internet! I wouldn’t recommend beauty blogging!
On the other hand, if you are truly interested in beauty blogging and would love to make it your career, then you can definitely succeed with patience and hard work. I doubt if you can do this in part-time as beauty blogging requires a lot of work. Even if you start as a part-time beauty blogger, you’ll need to contribute your whole time to it in order to see some decent money!
My Income Report : Honestly, I think I shouldn’t share my exact income report according to Google Adsense policies. But ‘Google Adsense’ contributes the major part of my blogging income. Though I earn through other projects, campaigns and sponsored posts, Adsense is making a stable income for me! Adsense is an advertising network started by Google that serves ads on your blog and pays you for clicks/impressions. More about that on another volume!
My adsense earnings vary month to month! I’ve made more than 50000 INR a month and less than 7000 INR to nothing a month in these 4+ years of my blogging journey! Adsense income totally depends on the TRAFFIC of your blog! After a strong google algorithm update in 2013, I’d lost 90% of MABH’s traffic – which means 90% drop in income as well! It was a nightmare since I gave up my regular schooling/college and opted for studies in correspondence to be a full time blogger! I could not accept that I lost my readers overnight – it was horrible!
I knew it was an evil work done by a competitor prior the update (toxic link building!) but I managed to get over the tragic incident by focusing myself on my work again. Though I received more discouraging comments after the incident – on how I should quit blogging, I could not image myself closing the blog just because it stopped making money; and hence, I worked to overcome it!
I’m not sharing this here to discourage you but to let you know that beauty blogging is not an icing on the cake! It is super good to do and tricky at the same time. If you do it right, you will love it 1000 times more than your regular day job!
Coming back to it – after the traffic drop, I’ve regained 75% of the lost traffic now (earnings, as well) and I’m truly happy about it! Now I’m regularly keeping an eye on negative SEO as well since I don’t want to lose any more traffic that I’d earned over years with my work and all your support!
Note : If you are a blogger who’s enjoying a great traffic already, I highly suggest you to keep an eye on your backlink profile to avoid experiencing unfortunate incidents, as I did.
How much do I make now? : Roughly, I make 30000-40000 INR from adsense these months! Campaigns with brands, direct advertisements and sponsored posts make some decent $$$ as well. (Depending on the number of projects and the quotes/in a month)
Other than Adsense and the direct advertising, I also make money selling the product – MABH Fast Growth Hair Oil, after discovering my love for long hair! (updated my 6 month hair growth pictures recently!) The business, though small and home based is doing really well and makes roughly twice $$$ my blog makes! If not the MABH blog, I could not have promoted the product properly to gain buyers’ trust! People all over the country are buying the product; they love the formula; it has been receiving great feedback from all over and I’m happy about its success!
I’m also working to enable international shipping soon. My blog gave birth to the business – so this is an example why I stress on how you need to be focused when it comes to beauty blogging! You can experiment a lot more than you think and it makes an awesome career, only if done with passion!
Overall, beauty blogging has given me an identity! I love writing here and I’m happy that I’m working from home and making a decent income doing my favorite work!
If you liked the post, do subscribe to the blog to receive posts on your email box! In another volume, I shall share about the monetizing ways in detail! Kindly share your comments below on how you monetize your blog/how much you make, only if comfortable/or if you’ve topic suggestions for this series. I’d love to share my views on them! Much love.
P.S : Please don’t get offended if I couldn’t reply to any of your emails on this topic. To be honest, I feel good about sharing my beauty blogging journey with my readers; I love reading your emails! However it is still not practically possible for me to respond to each and every email on this topic of money making with your blog!
I’m doing this series out of my interest and I don’t guarantee that I can teach you blogging! That is why I try my best to cover all your doubts on these volumes. I’m simply sharing my views to help people. I’m not pushing my views on anyone either.
