Vivel Active Essentials Kokum Butter Lip Care Review

Hello All!

Today, I am going to review the Vivel Lip Care. I came to know about this lip balm only when I went for shopping last month. Before that, I don’t even that a product like this exists. As the claims were impressive, I immediately picked it up.

Price and Quantity:

Rs. 30 for 10g

My Take:

Packaging: This Vivel Lip care comes in a small tube with a slanted tip applicator and a screw cap. Do you remember those Vaseline, Himalaya Herbals Lip Balms with similar Rs.20-30 price tag? The packaging is exactly same as them with same type of applicator. Ditto!

However, the product is use to use, travel friendly and mess free unlike the tub lip balms.

Color, Texture and Fragrance: This is a transparent lip balm without any color. It has a not-so-thick consistency. (May be the Chennai summers have melted it??) I would have liked the lip care more if it has a bit thicker consistency. Nevertheless, the texture is very smooth, soft and creamy.

Now I want to compare the fragrance of this lip care with some candy! Yup.. It exactly smells like the Alpenliebe candy or lolly pop :D (at least for my senses!) At first, I was very impressed of the fragrance but then in 2-3 days of usage, I got very bored of it. It smells like a candy and not a lip balm. I love sweet smelling products but its a tad on the ‘artificial’ and also ‘strong’ side so I did not like it much. If they tone down the fragrance and make it mild, I will REALLY love it.

How it Works for Me?: Soon after I apply this lip balm to my lips, I get an ‘oily feeling’. I should accept here that it instantly moisturizes my lips and relieves dryness but I feel like I have applied some oil over my lips. The finish is transparent, glossy and shiny – I loved it! The over sweet fragrance too fades off within ten seconds of application but I wanted it to be a bit thick on my lips than being oily.

While talking about the 24 hours moisturisation claim of the company, NO! it is false. But we cannot expect it from a 30 bucks lip balm though :P It helps my lips stay moisturized for 1-2 hours in summer and hence I am sure I will not use it in winters.

For now, I use it over my matte lipsticks to soften them and add that glossiness. And if I feel lazy to open the tub of my HG lip care product, of course the Himalaya Lip Butter, I get this on my hand and smooth it over my lips and voila, I am done with the instant lip moisturizer! :) but the sad part is it doesn’t last long.

However, if you can bear extremely sweet (a kinda artificial) candy-like fragrance, grab this lip care for sure! At least for the price and its instant moisturizing properties. Other than the fragrance part, it is a very very nice product for the price, believe me!

PROS:

  • Easy to use, travel friendly tube
  • Sweet fragrance (But wait.. this might be a con for some)
  • Soft texture and thin consistency
  • Not sticky or heavy on lips
  • Not waxy or patchy
  • Instantly moisturizes lips
  • Adds that glossiness and shine to the lips
  • Perfect to top over your matte lipsticks to turn them glossy in a minute
  • Did you check the price tag? It is just 30 INR!
  • Perfect for summers!.. Not for dry lips though

CONS:

  • That oily feeling on lips :/
  • The 24 hour moisturizing claim shouldn’t be done by the company! Seriously!
  • Fades away with a single drink, or snack
  • The over sweet, candy-like fragrance again! It feels a bit artificial for me
  • I don’t believe the UV protection claim as the staying power itself is very less!

Rating: 3.5/5

Do I Recommend?

Yup! I recommend it for the price tag, the instant moisturizing property and easy to use packaging. Give a try dude ;) You are not going to miss much by spending 30 bucks. However, if you do not like the fragrance, use it on your nails, I bet it will add super shine to them.

Would I Repurchase?:

Not sure! I do not like the fragrance.

I created the blog in 2011 during my high school days and then went on to regret the domain name. More than writing, I love my kitchen-experiments; currently hoarding cast iron pans.
