I’ve Helped Hundreds of Women Grow Long Hair. These 6 Hair Growth Myths Had to Go.
“Has my hair stopped growing?” “Can your hair growth oil give me 10 inches of hair in a month?”
These are the kinds of questions (hair growth myths) I hear almost daily while working with my Lancemade clients on their long hair growth experiments. And after more than a decade in this space, I’ve realized one truth: the journey to waist-length or even thigh-length hair isn’t about magic shortcuts. It’s about patience, sticking to the right hair growth routine, and saying “no” to the wrong practices.
I grew up in South India, raised on weekly oiling and time-tested rituals. I saw firsthand how they transformed my own hair. That’s why I built Lancemade (previously known as mabh fast growth hair oil) to bottle that same tradition and science for my clients. Our formulas, tested and loved by hundreds of women, have helped many achieve more than average growth and healthier, denser hair.
Here are the six most common lies I tell my clients to stop believing because these myths silently sabotage real progress.
1. Has my hair stopped growing? NO.
Hair never stops growing. It is one of the biggest hair growth myths sometimes people believe. (unfortunately) Think of a shaved head. Does it stay bald forever? Of course not. What usually happens is that your length isn’t being retained. The growth can be slow as well, but it can be improved with a proper routine.
Retention is everything. If your ends are breaking faster than your roots are growing, it feels like you’ve hit a plateau. The solution? Gentle detangling, protective styles, and nourishing oils that strengthen from root to tip.

2. Can hair shedding be stopped 100%? NO.
Unless you’re a humanoid robot, shedding is part of the natural hair growth cycle. On average, losing 50 to 100 strands per day is completely normal.
But when shedding becomes unusual or extreme, that’s when it deserves attention, both internally (diet, hormones, stress) and externally (consistent scalp care, oiling, and the right hair products). Otherwise, it’s better to accept shedding as natural and focus your energy on growth and retention.

3. Can your product make me grow 10 inches in a month? NO.
I hear this question often, especially when women discover our oil. Sadly, human biology hasn’t evolved to grow hair at that rate. It is another hair growth myth.
The average hair growth is ½ to 1 inch per month. Twelve inches a year (average growth rate) is already excellent. You can increase your average growth rate by using the right herbs & oils. What truly matters is how much of that length you keep. That’s why consistent oiling, trims, and scalp health are key.
The difference with Lancemade? Many of our clients report faster-than-average growth, stronger roots, and thicker density, simply because the formula optimizes scalp circulation and nourishment. Results vary, but our long-term users consistently notice healthier, longer hair than they did with DIY oils or generic products.

4. Do DIY hair treatments work all the time? NO.
I love a good DIY mask. Aloe vera has been a staple for me since my teens. But let’s be honest, not every trending hack works for long-term growth.
Rice water, onion juice, hyaluronic acid serums… they trend for a while, but many can cause protein overload or hygral fatigue, leaving hair brittle. I once tried gelatin on my hair, it left it crispy for weeks. Lesson learned.
If you’re serious about extreme length, you can’t afford careless experiments. Your ends are precious. Treat them like silk. I treat mine with great care.

5. Can extremely damaged ends be repaired? NO.
A broken table leg can’t be glued back into perfection, and neither can split ends. Serums may disguise the damage temporarily, but trimming is the only real solution.
Think of trims like pruning a plant. It helps the rest grow healthier. A micro-trim every 3 months is more than enough to stay on track.

6. Is leaving hair oil overnight bad? NO.
Absolutely not. Generations of South Indian women including my mother, grandmother, and aunts swore by this ritual. I do too.
When the oil is formulated right (lightweight, natural, scalp-friendly), leaving it overnight nourishes your scalp, strengthens strands, and even helps with premature greying. Many Lancemade clients oil twice a week and tell me their hair has returned to its natural color, feels denser, and grows like never before.

Final Word: Unlearn the hair growth myths you grew up with.
Growth Is Natural, Retention Is an Art.
If you’re on your long hair growth journey, don’t waste energy chasing shortcuts or clickbait myths. Focus on consistent care, mindful products, and trims when necessary. That’s the real secret to waist-length, hip-length, or even thigh-length hair.
