During a casual chat with my aunt, she told me how her hair growth spurted while she was carrying my younger cousin! Further, she did let me know that she had been taking ‘folic acid’ supplements during her pregnancy – suggested by her doctor and till date, she strongly believes folic acid was what that made her hair grow long and thick like a weed! After getting to know her experience with the vitamin, I got curious and surfed what actually folic acid is! And found out, it’s a synthetic form of B Vitamin.
I don’t hesitate to take B vitamins as they are not only good for my hair, skin and nails BUT also for the fact that they are ‘water soluble’, means – my body will not store it even if I consume the vitamin more than the required amount, (i.e excessively!) so no worries about side effects! I’d been taking this folic acid supplement (2000 mcg) from Zenith nutrition for a while now and here are my views on it!
Claims : The brand says folic acid is essential for proper fat metabolism. It also helps with DNA and RNA synthesis. It helps converting fats and amino acids into other ‘useful’ nutrients in your body. This supplement does not contain artificial ingredients or preservatives.
My Views :
100 vegetarian capsules of this folic acid supplement are safely packed in a white plastic container with a screw lid. The capsules are white in color and they don’t taste odd. I do not feel the taste at all, which is a good thing.
It has only been few days so I cannot comment on how it works on my skin. However, the heat acne that was bothering me for a couple of days disappeared this morning! B-Complex is what I take to cure such heat-related problems and surprisingly, folic acid works good too! I can feel that it keeps my body heat in a balance.
I take this along with my multi vitamin (Daily Active Multiple One A Day from Zenith) and it helps me stay active all the day. Once I notice more differences, (on my skin and hair) I shall definitely come back here to update.
Now let me share with you some more interesting facts about folic acid.
Folic acid is also called as B9 and it is one of the 8 B Vitamins! It helps convert your food into energy by breaking down into glucose and other nutrients. If you’re someone who suffers from malabsorption, no matter what you eat, then this vitamin is definitely going to help you! I’ve a high metabolic rate; I sometimes feel I never ‘absorb’ the nutrients I take so this supplement gives me some hope now!
This vitamin is always suggested by doctors for pregnant women as it helps the growth of the fetus. Pregnant women need to consume the supplement/foods rich in folic acid more since they need ‘more’ folic acid than a normal woman do. However, please consult with your physician in case if you plan to take these as I’m not the best person to get supplement suggestions from.
If your body lacks folic acid, the appetite may get affected. The vitamin plays an important role in generating new cells (that’s why pregnant women need it more!) so it’s extremely important that your diet consists of folic acid, as to maintain good health. Dried beans, okra, brocolli, dark leaf greens are some excellent natural food sources of folic acid! Did I tell you, the vitamin also improves the health of your brain? (as per the reports!)
Price : Rs.400 for 100 Vegetarian capsules
Overall, I’m extremely thrilled to continue my journey with this Folic acid supplement from Zenith nutrition! I’m surprised about its numerous benefits and I really hope it’ll help my skin, hair and appetite in a long run. I’d definitely suggest this vitamin to you if you’re weak/has an malabsorption problem however please check with your physician before you start taking any supplements. Good luck!
