Melas Skin Cream Review & My Bad Experience with It

Old scars, stubborn blemishes, stretch marks, acne marks… the list of skin woes is endless. The troublesome part is that these woes consume a lot of time and patience in their treatment. Sometimes, we adopt over-the-counter medicines and creams to rid ourselves off them. Don’t we? I, too have an old scar on my right cheek that I desperately want to get rid off.

One fine afternoon, while flipping across channels on TV, I stumbled across an advert of Melas Skin Cream that claimed to do away with all our old and deep scars. Infused with optimism and zest, I thought of rushing (like the Coyote from the Road Runner Show) straight to the nearby chemist to grab one.

For those who remember this cartoon series, let me know which were your favorite cartoon shows :) Also, wasn’t Tweety (the bird from Sylvester & Tweety mysteries) irresistibly cute and mischievous?

Sometimes, I feel glad that I am not born in today’s time for I’d have to bear the brunt of those irritating and dumb cartoons that feature on cartoon channels nowadays. In fact, the 90s had the best cartoon shows in my view. We had Spiderman, Arabian Nights, Duck Tales, The Looney tunes show, Sylvester & Tweety mysteries, The Flinstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Tom & Jerry kids’ show and the timeless classic – Tom & Jerry. Oh boy! I am getting nostalgic on recalling these true classics! Gone are those glorious days, my friend.. Gone are those days.
Anyway, cut straight to the point. Today, I’ll be reviewing Melas Skin Cream that I stumbled upon that afternoon via that advert. Read on to find whether this product actually lives up to its tall claims or falls flat.

My Views:

The product comes in a cardboard (not a tough or sturdy cardboard but a thin one) package. Upon opening, the main tube (a very small one) is seen that is opaque, made of plastic and has to be squeezed to release the cream. There’s a nozzle inside the cap of the tube which you’ve to perforate yourself.

Due to multiple layers of packaging, I am quite assured that the product wouldn’t have been tampered with. It is handy and hygienic. Hence, scores well on account of packaging.

There’s also a leaflet inside the cardboard package which guides a user on how and when to use it. It in short, gives all the instructions to a user.

The product has a “slightly” (I’ve written so because it indeed, is very slight) thick consistency. It is white in color. The expiry duration of the cream is 2 years from the date of manufacturing. My tube is a year and a half old (that is, it is 6 months away from expiry), so it might look slightly more runny in the swatch but if you buy a new tube, it won’t be as runny as is shown in the picture.

Coming now to the nightmare of the decade for me. I thought that this cream would magically eliminate that old scar of mine and I’d be in a position to flaunt the skin I’d always coveted. With such rosy dreams in my eyes, I applied a generous dollop of this cream on my right cheek (where I had a scar). Although it tingled slightly, yet, I ignored that and hit the pillow that ‘fateful’ night. It didn’t tingle so bad that I would have been compelled to wash it off but there was a SLIGHT tingling sensation which I thought of resisting.

I woke up in the morning thinking I’d be able to replicate that scene in Hindi movies wherein a heroine wakes up with perfect skin, already-done hair and a soulful tune playing in the background. But destiny (and this cream) had other plans in store for me. Opening my eyes while still being somewhat drowsy, I peered into the mirror. Stunned. Confounded. Dumbstruck. I was at a loss of words when I saw what had happened to my skin. No, it wasn’t a happy ending. I woke up with burnt, reddened and peeled skin which looked like someone had stuck a hot iron kadhai (vessel in English) to my cheek!

Yes, it tingled on application but it wasn’t highly uncomfortable or discomfiting enough to provoke me to wash it off. Yes, I ignored it. But it “peeled” my skin! That was enough to send shivers down my spine. I rubbed an ice cube on it and the pain increased. I poured cold raw milk on it to calm the redness. It didn’t work. I then patted my cheek very gently to calm it down but it had launched its own Civil Disobedience movement. Also, while I was gently patting, I could see my skin peel and separate. No, it didn’t reveal fresher and younger looking skin from beneath. It exposed my nascent skin – which was underdeveloped, embryonic and hence, not meant to be brought up prematurely.

After two weeks, my cheek’s condition reverted to their older state. I gave up using all cosmetics at once for those two weeks. Even for natural DIYs, I had to cherry pick one or two which were too mild to cause any irritation.

In the end, the cream reached the place where it deserved to be since the beginning and that is… THE DUSTBIN.
This has been the WORST product I’ve applied on my skin. It’s not the case that I slathered a huge dollop of this cream. I don’t even have sensitive skin. It is simply a product that peels off your top skin to reveal premature skin which we mistake as “younger skin”. No doubt, it is younger but do you think this way of peeling your skin sane?
The inner skin layer isn’t developed yet to be exposed to so much dirt, dust, grime and pollution which is why it lies inside. It will come to the top when the topmost layer (epidermis) is shed “naturally” and not artificially.
I would not even recommend my sworn enemy this dud.
