Emami Vasocare Herbal Skin Jelly Review

Popsicles, ice lollies, chocolate ice cream drenched in hot choco sauce and not to forget MANGOES! (Yes probably everyone’s indulgence in summers)! Summers do come with a lot of baggage. And a baggage that is more of a delight. Isn’t it?

But wait! There is someone who cringes upon hearing the word ‘Summer’. And that is none other than our SKIN. Picture this – Sweating in the scorching heat of the sun with the wind (infamously called ‘loo’ in North India) blowing one’s tresses and then coming back home to find dark spots or pimples develop on our already parched skin. Doesn’t that spell horror?

While everyone suffers from different skin problems and has their own inimitable ways to keep skin problems at bay, one thing that every skin type requires is proper moisturization. Be it oily/acne-prone skin or dry, parched skin, moisturizers are to skin what food is to body. Okay maybe that was too formulaic but definitely not unimportant. Don’t believe it? Try to survive a day without a moisturizer!

Anyway, without much ado let’s straightaway jump to the topic. I have always left my skin to the bounties of Vaseline petroleum jelly (for lip care) and Vaseline total moisture body lotion. But this time out of the urge to break free from my old skin care routine, I bought a new skin jelly and no points for guessing it’s the Emami Vasocare! Let’s start with the review then.

emami vasocare petroleum jelly

My Views:

While the packaging seems simple and sturdy yet 2-3 uses and the cap loosens up. Hence, it isn’t travel friendly at all from my perspective. The bottle however is sturdy but the cap plays spoilsport. The jelly is light green in colour, smells refreshing (this is subjective since some may find it too strong) and the best part is that it is not at all greasy or heavy. In fact it glides smoothly on your skin and gets absorbed quickly too.

However, a major flaw is that you have to apply it repeatedly every 15 mins since it does NOT provide long-lasting moisturization. This might be the deal breaker for a number of dry-skinned ladies out there who are always in dire search of moisturising jellies. This made me think that if a jelly didn’t moisturize my skin well enough in summers, it will be a total dud in winters!

Those who use petroleum jellies to moisturize the relatively hardened skin of their body say – elbows, knees, knuckles, toes and ankles, this jelly does little. Honestly, it did not come as a surprise. A jelly which doesn’t moisturize one’s legs and hands for mere 10 minutes will surely be incapable of moisturizing hardened areas.
Coming in different sizes, the product is priced as per the quantity of each bottle.

Gladly, I bought the smallest bottle (after all I was ‘trying out’ a new product. So, why shell out huge bucks on it?) I was able to finish it up quickly without the trouble of contemplating about whom I pass it to if I am unsatisfied with the product!

The product is readily available at local kiraana stores, cosmetic shops and almost everywhere. Also it is dirt cheap when it comes to the price structure; I bought the cheapest of all the sizes – worth Rs. 5 for 8.4 ml!

You can find a picture of my hand swatch below. I applied around half the quantity of the jelly in the tub for every time I applied a pea-sized amount of it and decided to click a picture or two, it vanished into thin air.

Finally a few minutes later, barring the fragrance (which I feel some may find highly strong) nothing else was retained. My hand felt THE SAME 10 minutes later as it was before the application of this jelly. In a nutshell, it did nothing.

Price : Rs.50 for 50 ml; Rs.25 for 25 ml, Rs.5 for 8.4 ml

Rating : 0.5/5

Verdict : I’ll return back to my former summer skin saviours – Vaseline total moisture and petroleum jelly for I’ve come to realise their significance. This product is simply a waste of money. It just does not moisturize (which is its MAJOR CLAIM). In my opinion, if you still want to try it out, go for the smallest bottle for if it does not work for you then at least you won’t be guilty of squandering money on it.

That’s it for now ladies. As I began the review on the perks of summer (majorly on the mouth watering delights of summers) so, I’d end the review on the same note – Go and bask in the fun and frolic of the things you indulged in as a kid. 1. Hi Sangeeta :)
Thanks for reading the review. I wish the product were good but as you said, it really is a dud. The only good part about is that it came in a really small tube which is why, I didn’t regret spending money on it :P
