Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi Brightening Ayurvedic Face Scrub : Review and Photos

Hey people!

I recently did a mini internet research on ‘Kumkumadi Tailam’ for its magical properties! I hoped it could somehow save me from my chickenpox marks. After getting impressed of the formula and its history, I stocked up few products based on the ingredient (kumkumadi oil) last month! And this brightening scrub from Kama Ayurveda is one of them! Today, I shall be sharing my experience with the scrub in detail!

Price : Rs.795 for 50 g

My Views:

The product comes in a sturdy, slightly bulky glass container with a glossy black screw up. The outer lid fits just right and hence, the packaging doesn’t bother me during the travel. However, I still need to be careful while handling it since it is made of glass. The container is packed safely in a saffron-orange colored carton with another piece of cardboard inside it, to hold it safe in its place. There’s also this lid present once you open the screw lid, as to avoid spillage of the product.

The consistency of the scrub is quite rich. It is VERY creamy, thick and luxurious. I wasn’t disappointed with the ‘tub packaging’ due to this reason since a formula like this is not easy to be squeezed out from a tube (I’ve had experiences with face packs with similar texture; they dry out pretty quickly and gather at the corner of the tubes’ leading to wastage!) There’s a small wooden spatula provided inside scoop out the product so that you won’t contaminate it every time by dipper in your fingers. I appreciate the concept of the spatula! (but I’m really sorry that I lost it somewhere during the product photo shoot! Refer google images for blogger reviews. You’ll find it somewhere there!)

The rich cream base is light yellow in color (as that of a creamy almond milk!) and it is tightly packed with small granules of walnut shell powder for the scrubbing action. The particles are light brown, beige and black in color;  I could also spot few saffron strands inside the product as well. The scrub smells very mild and subtle to my senses! It has a whiff of pure kumkumadi tailam that doesn’t bother me. You cannot find the scent uncomfortable during the usage since it is very mild and you can barely notice it while applying it on your face!

How do I use it? : Soon after cleansing my face, I dab my skin gently with a cotton towel and then start applying this scrub over my skin. Within a minute, it starts to tighten and the massage-part becomes tricky, since the formula is thick and cream based. Hence, I wet my fingers and then massage my face in circular motions, concentrating more on corners of the nose, cheeks and upper lip areas. I must say I totally love the exfoliation it provides! Though there are several scrubbing particles present in the product, they are not abrasive on my skin. They are just right for the facial skin; neither too light nor too harsh! Once you wet the skin and start scrubbing, the cream loosens up making the scrubbing more effective, which I like!

Note : Otherwise, you can also use the product as instructed by the brand. They ask you to wet your face with lukewarm warm and then work on the scrubbing part. I didn’t do this for the first time since I wanted to understand the spread-ability of the scrub on my skin; I applied it on partially wet skin and then used wet fingers during the massage. However, now I directly use it over wet skin since it is pretty thick! It spreads well regardless of the creamy consistency.

After 2-3 minutes of gentle massaging/scrubbing, I wash my face with clean, cold water and I could instantly feel softer, smooth skin! There’s no dryness left behind however, it doesn’t moisturize either. If you have a very dry skin, you will need a good moisturizer. For oily skin types, a light water-based moisturizer will do! The scrub removes the dead skin year and impurities very well. I cannot comment on the blackhead/whitehead part since I don’t have any, luckily! However, with this formula I guess it’ll definitely help to clear them out! After the first usage, you will feel clear skin that is not left dry. Within 4-5 usages, you can expect a better skin texture!

Overall, I’m totally impressed with this facial scrub from Kama Ayurveda! It has a luxury formula that everyone will love and moreover, a 50 gm pack will last for at least two months if used twice a week. I recommend this product to all skin types! It doesn’t dry out your skin; and it doesn’t turn oily skin types more oilier/greasier post usage inspire of being a cream based scrub. I love using it in summers too!

I’m yet to start using their Kumkumadi oil that’s lying on my shelf. After having a good experiencing with this scrub, now I’m more curious to check how that works on my skin! Once I do, I’ll do a detailed review on that as well! Do share your comments below.
