3 Things to Know Before Starting Your Beauty Blog : Beauty Blogging Vol.1

Hello All!

Today, I am starting a new series on MABH, where I’ll be sharing my thoughts on beauty blogging.

Important Note : First and foremost, I think I should admit this – I am not an expert when it comes to beauty blogging. I start this series today just to share with you my experiences, expectations, cloud nine moments, disappointments, ups and downs etc. of my 3+ years of beauty blogging journey!

1. Blogging is Fun and Exciting :

Beauty blogging is going to greet you with lots of pleasure when you step into it. Do you know how it feels like to review the first product ever on your OWN blog? When I started my blog, I still remember how happy I felt publishing my first post. It wasn’t even a good one to be true – with cranky low-quality photos, not-so-good-writing, etc. But still, starting a beauty blog was something special to me when I was only 16! I didn’t know I’d turn into a full time blogger. I still have a LOT of things to learn – improve my writing, grammar, photography skills etc. But here, I get the freedom to do what I love and what I can! Of course there will be critics pulling you down, but after all, I can definitely say ‘Beauty blogging is awesome!’. If you are into beauty, makeup and fashion, it helps you explore so many things that will interest you in no time.

If you are going to take blogging as your profession, you should maintain the enthusiasm even after weeks, months and years to stay stable in this space. I see countless new beauty bloggers in India blooming these days; however, it is sad to know many bloggers quitting it all of a sudden. I don’t mean they shouldn’t do it. But it is just that if you want to remain as a beauty blogger forever, more than the time and talent you posses, it is the ‘interest’ that means a lot. Never let it go out of you!

2. Patience Matters:

Before you decide to start a beauty blog, you should plan your time schedule. As a reader, you may find things easy but there’s a lot behind the scenes. It takes time! If not a whole day, at least hours to write, edit, proof reader, and publish a post. And yeah, on the top of everything.. here comes the ‘photography’ part!! Ask beauty bloggers how many posts they currently have in their draft waiting to get published for which they didn’t click the photos yet? If you ask me, I’ll at least have 5 on my draft box now. Not everyone does this. But I am just saying, beauty blogging requires time and patience. It is neither hard nor boring, but it’s not easy as knife on the butter as you view it from the other side.

Hence, before you register a domain name and start a beauty blog, fix your schedule and plan when and how long can you spare to create the content for your blog. If you are doing blogging for a hobby, you can skip this part and just post whenever you feel like posting. But if you are taking beauty blogging seriously, spare time! Though I write this, I don’t follow any great schedule; hoping this series will help me organize things better when it comes to the blog.

P.S: I can literally hear the writers and readers here on MABH stabbing me inside their heads for not being regular.

3. There WILL be Criticism!

Though not much in earlier stages, you will be facing comments, criticism, (both positive and negative), encouragement and stupidity when your blog slowly grows. No matter what you do, there’ll be some people appreciating your work and MANY who criticize you negatively, either in front of you or anonymously. This happens in beauty blogging, a LOT!

Take a pledge such things will never affect your interest and love towards writing before you get into the blog-o-sphere. The more positive comments you get, the more you are taking your blog to the next step. When you start getting negative comments – you should analyze it in two ways. If the blogger/reader personally points out some mistake/err you made, do check whether there are possibilities to make corrections. Thank them if they were right. Anonymous criticism should go straight to the trash! Don’t pay attention to such people. And give a pat on your back that your blog has a reach enough to breed jealously in someone else’s mind. I personally avoid people who spread hate in the blogging world. Paying attention to them is totally a waste of time I’d say.

Note: Till date, I’ve committed so many mistakes when it comes to blogging. I’ve been ignorant, lazy, careless. I did SEO wrong, I killed the traffic not maintaining it. But what’s the big deal? At the end, it is the ‘experience’ that teaches you a lot about blogging! Now, I guess I am still doing mistakes but I can be sure that I am aware of what all I did wrong in the past – when it comes to blogging. So whenever someone passes a ‘mean’ comment on me or my blog, all I do is IGNORE them. Developing a fight, saying harsh things back is not going to help you at the end of your day. If you concentrate on your blog ignoring them all, you will know where you stand and where they stand, after months and years!

That’s all. The next post I am thinking to write on this series is something like ‘beauty blogging mistakes I did’. Or should I share my income report and write about money making with a beauty blog? Do let me know your suggestions below. Though I share my opinions and views on this series, there are lot of techie guys out there who teach you things better when it comes to professional blogging. Do read a lot on the internet before you start your own blog. Stay tuned!
