Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Polish (Pop 1) Review

When Maybelline Newyork released their Lip Polish range in India, I picked the shade Pop 1 instantly. I am not a big fan of lip glosses (They always made my already big lips bigger!) but this particular shade allured me and I had no choice other than picking it. I’ve been using this lip polish for quite sometime now and today I am going to share my views on it.

My Views:

The product comes in a small, transparent lip gloss tube with a silver colored top that fits just right. A good quality leaf-shaped applicator is attached to the top. The tip of the applicator is bent and is comfortable for application. You can easily carry this lip polish in your clutch anywhere. The shade name and mfg date are printed on the bottom of the tube.

Coming to the shade, Pop 1 is a beautiful bright coral-orange, without any traces of pink or peach to it. It looks very bold on the tube but turns subtle and beautiful on the lips. The texture of this lip polish is buttery; neither too thick nor too thin. It has no shimmers to it (which is a plus for me) and it is slightly thicker than regular lip glosses and thus provides a better coverage. I swipe it once over my lips for a soft coral look and layer it on for 3-4 swipes to build it opaque. This way, it covers 80% of lip pigmentation. If you want full intensity and coverage, then wear any good matte orange or coral lipstick beneath this gloss. I do this at times with my favorite orange lipstick from L’Oreal Paris (Please excuse. I forgot the name of the range!)

The finish is very glossy and moisturizing. There is no stickiness left behind if applied properly. The polish stays on my lips for 2-4 hours (depending on the weather and environment) leaving back a nice coral tint. Lips should be well exfoliated before application or the color might get settled into fine lines looking patchy. Due to its good moisturizing power, you will not need a separate lip balm underneath. I have a crush over sweet/pleasant smelling lip glosses and expected it to be the same when I got it. However, it has no fragrance. I don’t really mind it because the I am impressed with the product overall and I am sure eyeing out for the other shades in this range. Any suggestions?

• Very moisturizing and keep your lips well hydrated.
• Pigmentation is decent compared to the other glosses in the market.
• Not so heavy on the lips though the gloss is pigmented.
• No fragrance; very much suitable for sensitive noses.
• Good quality applicator and comes in 16 shades!
• Decent staying power (2-4 hours)

Dislikes:

• Girls who prefer very ‘light’ glosses with less color might not like it . (It has a tad buttery feel to it)

Conclusion:

If you are into corals and oranges, I highly recommend you to get this one – for the mirror glossy finish, decent staying power and the beautiful CORAL-orange color it pays off. This kind of coral would suit all skin tones and the opaqueness can be increased according to your likes. You can either use it as a soft coral balm (with single swipe) or add more swipes and flaunt your glossy coral lips!
