I finally made up my mind to color my long classic-length hair! (You can check out the current length of my hair 0n my mom’s hair growth journey post) I’ve been thinking about coloring my hair for more than 5-6 months now but every time I stepped back hearing (scaring!) about the bad effects of few hair colors on my friends’ and readers’ hair. (I’ve a very own bad experience as well) I was badly eyeing out for an ammonia free hair color, that will also add shine to my hair. At last, I found the right one and lets talk about it at the end of the post. Its a secret for now! (Don’t scroll; no cheating!) Before checking about my hair color selection, whys, hows etc, lets see how hair color is the latest trend among women!
Hair Coloring – Why I call it the latest trend?:
From school girls to mommies and grannies, everybody loves to color their hair these days! In spite of hearing how bad hair colors are for hair, we still see many woman with different hair colors. Why is it? What’s wrong with the dark Indian hair you may ask; but I’ve done a little research on it and got the following answers.
Gets People Talking:
Be it your school, college or your workplace – When you go flaunting your colored hair with a new cool hair style, people really talk ABOUT it a lot. You suddenly become the center of attraction among the people around you! It’s because coloring your hair totally refreshes your style in a day! Don’t you agree?
Not Just Color; But Adds Shine:
Nowadays, the hair colors we buy and use don’t only claim giving your hair the ‘color’ but they also promise to make your hair glossy and manageable. When you get manageable hair with a touch of color (that you like), who says no? I know people who color their only only to get that ‘shine’ and of course, I am one of them! :) More than just the shade, some really good hair colors claim to make your hair all glossy and lively! So no wonder women go for hair coloring.
Covers Grey Hair:
Not just for the attention-grabbing ability or shine. Hair color helps women and men in so many ways! As many people color their hair in recent days/years, no one raises you some embarrassing question like ‘why do you color your hair? Have you got any ‘grey’ problems’?
No more worries due to premature greying of hair or annoying questions because now, you can cover your greys silently and rock with your new hair color like a Diva anywhere!
We are not living in our grandmother’s time period when most of the women only color hair to hide GREYS! The trend has totally changed now. There are not only black, brown and such shades; but there are numerous hair color shades available these days in the market making it a hard task for girls to choose which one to use! They bleach.. they c0lor their hair.. they keep it going for few days and then again change the color because they’ve got a lot of choices.. obviously! This is one of the main reasons why hair coloring is a super hot trend now! A lot of celebrities have also coloured their hair! You can check them out here. Aishwarya Rai is my favorite celebrity, when it comes to hair color!
Things to Keep in Mind Before Coloring Your Hair:
Well! You got to know the trends. What now? You just simply cannot pick some random hair color and use it on your hair. It is a tricky game. As much as it is interesting, it has the evil side too. Ammonia based hair colors can literally KILL your hair. It is like a slow poison. They might add color and shine to your hair but once days and weeks pass.. You’ll be left with nothing but straw like rough hair! Split ends and dryness will never leave you.
Hence, its very important that you choose an ammonia-free hair color from a trusted brand. And use it on your hair only as instructed. You should also be very nice to your hair after coloring it. You should try to use shampoos, conditioners and serums meant for colored hair. Regular usage of hair oils and hair masks will help maintain the natural shine, even on colored hair!
I am Going to Color My Hair BLACK!
Alright I do already have a black Indian hair! However, when I tried a burgundy color on my hair last year (Without bleaching) there were no after effects – no change in color at all. It neither made my hair burgundy nor shiny. I forgot about it. Days passed. Months passed and now the ends of my hair strands are in a DIFFERENT color compared to the hair near to my scalp. I was shocked when my mom noticed and told me and I can definitely be sure it is the bad side effect of the hair color I used (I better don’t mention the brand) I luckily didn’t get split ends. Thanks to all the moisturizing hair masks and hair oils I’ve been using. When I am even very picky about my shampoos and conditioners (Due to SLS, paraben and stuff, I only use my homemade hair oil, cleansers and masks) I don’t know how I lost my mind and fell into the trap last year. And it happens!
Past is past! Now I am dying to color my hair JET black. Yes, my whole hair black, a darker black than how it is now (I got few brown-slight red hues on my hair now due to the bad coloring experience last year)
I WANT that glossy shine to flaunt my long hair now (like in the ads!). This time, I am trying one of the most trusted brand for hair colors (and hair care products as well) – L’Oreal Paris. I believe in them because their new Casting Creme Gloss range does not contain AMMONIA and its definitely a YAY factor for me. I’ve also heard a lot about their range! I picked the color Ebony black. You can see it in the picture below. In the coming days, we’ll be discussing a lot about it.
I’ll be coloring my hair dark black in a couple of days. And I will definitely do a photo tutorial on it within this week! Very excited to try out an ammonia free hair color for the first time. I hope it makes my hair all glossy and black. Stay tuned! :)
