My Hair Story Revisited ~ Before and After Pictures

I had shared my hair story here on MABH a few months ago. For a quick recap let me just say that if there is any experiment with one’s hair worth the name, I’ve done it- from colouring to perming to straightening to all kinds of hair treatments and rituals ( as Kerastase calls them) until I finally decided to go all natural with hair care. So, out went all the chemical rich hair colours, shampoos and treatments and in came all indigenous ways – henna, oiling and natural shampoos and conditioners. Needless to say, my hair is much healthier than it has been in a long time.

I do indulge in an occasional hair spa or a blow dry but not on a regular basis. Coming to MABH Fast Growth Hair Oil, I had shared my 1st impression earlier, both on my own blog and on MABH. That was in March, and now almost after 3 months and two and a half bottles down (of MABH Hair oil only…what were you thinking?) it is time for a review of the review. As the name says, the oil is supposed to help in fast hair growth and since I do not like to dramatize things, let me just say- It delivers what it promises! I am not one of those blessed with a good hair growth rate but even so, having been using this oil consistently since almost mid February, my hair has grown by almost 3 inches. I don’t know if the pictures show this clearly but from touching the lower end of my shoulder blades, they are now much below the waist length. And I am HAPPY!!

Latest picture of my hair:

Bless you Lancy and MABH Hair Oil. However, on the flip side, I do have a lot of split ends and the ends of my naturally dry hair are looking frayed and extra dry. As much as I might hate it, I think I need to get a cut and take at least an inch or so off, especially the tail end, which is looking like a thin “poonch”. Any suggestions anyone to stall haircuts? I mean you spend months waiting for the hair to grow and one visit to the stylist and off it goes!

My hair care tips and secrets? None really. Whatever I have gathered in my quest for Rapunzel hair is here:

1. Try to use as many natural products as possible – be it oil, shampoo, conditioner, packs or colouring – natural is the way to go. However, one chemical based product that I cannot do without is a hair serum, my current favourite being Wella Oil Reflections. If anyone knows of a good natural hair serum, please do share.

2. Oiling the hair and henna application may not be very cool and happening but they really benefit the hair and have no side effects. I will swear by LUSH hennas for their conditioning properties and by Indigo to get jet-black hair sans the ghastly orange-red tinge of henna.

3. If there is one rule that I have adhered to at least 95% of the times regarding hair care and benefited from, it is to oil my hair the night before shampooing it. Oiling an hour before the wash feels like a hoax to me!

4. This may sound a bit strange but I have a feeling that after using the same oil for a couple of months, my hair stops responding to it. What I like to do is to rotate and use my favourite hair oils.

5. While I like and advocate using natural products, there are times that chemical based products do come to the rescue. June saw my hair turning to straw and parched (regardless of oiling and conditioning) thanks to the horrible dry weather and what surprisingly helped was Wella hair spa for dry hair. (Wella is my current favorite. Earlier it was Kerastase) Not only was my hair instantly moisturised and hydrated, the effect stayed on long after.

6. In the same vein as number 5 above, occasional help with styling tools is not going to spell the death knell for your hair. Use a good heat protecting serum and style those lovely locks!

7. Eat well – Oiling etc is all very well but what you eat nourishes the hair from within. Don’t starve yourself and hope to have healthy hair.

So much for my “gyaan” on hair. Before I wind up, some more gyaan – whether you have long hair or not, whether your hair are straight or curly or not as thick as the girl next door or you are going through an occasional patch of hair fall, let us all remember to thank the lord for what we have and be grateful for it. In today’s mad, competitive world, it is so easy to lose all perspective and lose sleep over a bad skin or unruly hair. Believe me, it’s not worth it. There is more to life than the size of your butt and length of your hair and while one should take care (both of the butt and hair), it is always a good idea to step back and appreciate what you have!
