How are you all doing? Enjoying the chill in the weather or not? I am enjoying it a lot here in Kolkata because it is neither too cold nor very hot over here. I can enjoy my summer dresses in the morning and winter coats at night. But at the same time the series of getting scolding from my mum in the morning continues as I fail to keep up to my promise of getting out of bed early. 🙁
Anyways let us praise the lovely weather winter. No sweat, no odour, no makeup meltdown and no chipchip. Aah the advantages are endless. With winters also comes the season of juicy and citrus fruits. I enjoy having fruit juices in my breakfast as it instantly recharges the body. Eating seasonal fruits is very much important for our body. The food in the season tastes a lot better because they are grown organically. They may contain ingredients that suit the body’s needs for that time of year. Winter comes with juicy fruits mostly dominated by oranges. Oranges are juicy and sweet and known for its high vitamin C content. Eating one or two oranges a day gives an energy boosting effect.
So before I proceed with the theme of my post I would highlight some of the health benefits of oranges.
1. It helps prevent cancer: Oranges are rich in citrus limonoids proven to help fight a number of varieties of cancer like that of skin, breast, stomach etc.
2. Lowers bad cholesterol: Oranges help in reducing the amount of bad cholesterol in the body.
3. Creates good vision: Oranges are rich in carotenoid compounds which are converted to vitamin A and help prevent macular degeneration.
Apart from all these health benefits oranges are proven to be a boon for our skin also. They are full of beta carotene which is a powerful antioxidant protecting the cells from damage which also protects the skin from free radicals and ultimately prevents the signs of premature skin aging. Oranges are used religiously in many beauty products. The benefits of vitamin c, potassium and folic acid present in orange can create wonders for skin. Vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen. Its yellow pigment is linked to reducing sun-induced skin damage and is believed to improve skin elasticity. So with this post of mine I bring for you all some easy and effective DIY beauty recipes with this wonder fruit orange. Enjoy the juicy ride through the post.
1. DIY orange face mask:
This face mask gives an instant glow to your face. Combine ½ cup oatmeal, 2 tbsp plain yogurt, 2 tbsp honey and 2 tbsp of dried orange peel to a thick consistency. Spread onto your face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. The leftover mask can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.
2. DIY baking soda and orange juice face mask:
Mix 1 tbsp of orange juice with 1 tbsp of baking soda. Spread a thin layer on face. Leave on for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes wet your fingers and scrub in gentle circular motions and wash off.
3. DIY orange sugar lip scrub:
Mix 2 tbsp of sugar with 1 tsp of dried orange peel and few drops of orange juice. Massage this paste on lips with a toothbrush and wash it off. This lip scrub will give you kissable baby soft lips.
4. DIY orange face mask for acne:
This face mask is very good for oily acne prone skin as fuller’s earth absorbs oil from the skin and orange juice has anti bacterial properties. Mix 2 tbsp of fuller’s earth with 1 tsp of milk and required amount of orange juice to make a paste.Apply this paste on your face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and rinse off.
