Dove recently introduced a hair care range which is nourishing oils. These are claimed to work within 30 min to combat over night oiling which is sometimes messy and you just don’t have the time for it. I have chocolate brown hair, very curly, soft but extreme frizzy hair. So of course this caught my eye. After L’Oreal smooth Intense Serum and L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Liss Control plus Smoothing Serum, this is the only hair product till now that my hair and I loved immensely.
Price and Quantity:
Rs. 185 for 90 ml
Packaging: This hair oil comes in a transparent glass bottle with a pump cap. Looks classy but the glass bottle is bulky and not travel friendly at all. That actually beats the purpose since travel time is the time when you need quick oiling. It leaks a lot. I had to keep it separately wrapped so that it won’t spoil other things. 🙁 You can find lavender petals floating in the bottle which is quite good to see.
Fragrance: It has amazing and typical dove smell. A bit of lavender can be detected by strong noses. The colour is light champagne and quite good.
Consistency: It has the consistency of a serum but slightly thicker. But it can be quite greasy and take a lot of massaging to get proper absorption on hair. My hands stayed greasy the whole time.
Working: Amount used is little so bottle will last me long. It is quite greasy if kept for more than 1 hour. It needs much shampoo to remove as well. I used this as a pre shampoo oil and post shampoo serum. As pre nourishment it didn’t work on my hair as my olive oil does. Only a bit softer that was all. My hair was actually frizzier the next day. But as post serum it kept my hair ends smooth and soft for 3 days straight. Do apply it on wet hair for best results. It has silicones and mineral oil which is something I have been trying to avoid. Too much product will make your hair greasy.
Why I like?:
- Amazingly fragrance
- Good conditioning and works as it claims in half an hour
- Dove is a trusted brand
- Works really well as a post serum as well.
Why I don’t like?:
- Not travel friendly. Leaks a lot (beats the whole purpose of short term oiling)
- Can be greasy if used liberally and needs lot of massaging to absorb
- Silicones are a con. It is puzzling that even a oil needs silicones in it
- Ingredient list also mentions mineral oil
Rating: 3.5 /5 (It does what it claims but silicones and the leaks!! Ugh)
Do I Recommend?:
Yes surely! It may work well on people with normal hair. Oily hair beauties should stay away from this. I have seen some good reviews as well.
Would I Repurchase?:
But I find my virgin olive oil and L’Oreal serum much better since it didn’t work on my hair as pre shampoo nourishment. I have better serums to use. So no I won’t be getting this again.
