Lakme Kajal Pencil in Black Shade Review

Hey girls!
Hope you all read my Lakme Instaliner Eyeliner Review which I posted a couple of days before, I have mentioned that it is a great affordable eyeliner for starters. If you didn’t check it out still, you can check here. Now let me review a Kajal from the Lakme brand. I shopped this 2 months ago from stylecraze and using it now and then.

Since 5 years I am using kajal, which I started at my age of 12. I never ever go out without kajal because I feel my eyes are not fulfilled without at least kajal and eyeliner. Even If I don’t have any compact, concealer or lippy I will be okay with it, but kajal and liner!! My god! I never can. Okay enough saying about my makeup history.. he he.. Let me share my experiences with this product with it’s pros and cons. Keep reading!

Lakme Kajal (Black Shade)

Price: Rs.49 for 2g; I got it for Rs.46 from Stylecraze

Shelf Life: 3 years

Ingredients: Camphor and Castor Oil

What does the product claims
Easy to apply and sharpen, for an ultra smooth finish.
Has camphor and Castor oil to cool and soother the eyes.
Helps eyelashes grow longer.

My Views and Ratings

The Packaging
The kajal comes in a black coloured thick pencil stick with a transparent plastic cap and a golden colour bottom lid. As this is a pencil type kajal, it is easy to sharpen and use unlike other roll type or simply stick like kajals. The packaging is very simple, compact, handy and travel friendly as the cap is firm. Even though it is not much cute, it is quite good and well packed, hence I loved the packaging. The only thing that disappointed me is that the cap doesn’t have a sharpener to sharp this kajal pencil. If the product comes with a sharpener I would be giving full rating for this :( Even though we cannot expect a sharpener for this cost, it still bothers me (I know.. Greedy me) :P
Rating: 4.5/5 (-0.5 for no sharpener)

Colour, Consistency and Texture
What to say about the colour? Already you would be knowing that it is black. No other shade is available. This doesn’t bother me because I always love black in kajals. It is so thick in consistency as it comes in a pencil stick (Not much thick as other pencils though) but the texture is so smooth. It spreads smoothing over my water line and gives a black shade instantly. The shade should be more dark though, it’s not enough for me. 2 swipes is enough for a thick application and hence a stick lasts for months. You can see the swatches (thin and thick) in my hand below..

My Experience
To state about this product in single word, I can say that it is a daily “Home wear” kajal. It would suit home makers well because it has not much staying power. It barely stays for 1 to 2 hours without disturbing eyes, then gets disappeared. The good things are, it doesn’t sting eyes or give me any side effects and even if smudges it doesn’t show darkness below eyes much. The creamy kajal is dark, but has no good staying powder. This may be an advantage too for some people as it comes off easily without any trouble. About the eyebrow lash growth claim, they were somewhat true because it does stop my eyelash hair fall and made it healthier with regular use, thus it grows longer if there is no falling. This might because of it’s natural ingredients like Castor oil and camphor. I love the product overall, worth of money, very affordable! If you are an eye makeup beginner, house wife, simple makeup lover, then go for it. Are you planning for going market, or a 1 hour shopping? Then you can use it without any fear. It’s such a simple and great kajal for sensitive eyes and makeup starters.
Rating: 3.5/5 (No dark shade and No staying power)

  4. Good packaging, travel friendly and handy.
  5. Will suit makeup beginners and house wives well.
  6. Easily available everywhere.
  7. Doesn’t darkens “below eye area”much even if smudges.
  8. Does goodness to eyes! Cools down and makes eyelashes healthy with daily use.

CONS
  1. No sharpener (Shouldn’t consider this as a con for this price though)
  2. No lasting power. Barely lasts for 2 hours.
  3. Not at all suitable for everyday wear (For college, workplace and occasions)
  4. The shade should be more dark.
My Recommendation: House wives, makeup beginners, sensitive eyed persons.. Go ahead! It is a lovely product without side effects and it does good to eyes too. Not for a makeup-ies, college girls or workers anytime!
